Zakopane

The only place I've actually been hiking in Poland is Zakopane, which is a small town on the border with Slovakia, so maybe it's misleading to call the section 'Poland'. But, hopefully I'll get a chance to add to it.

You can get the bus there easily from Krakow, and I hear it''s popular for skiing. I've never skied in my life (too clumsy), so I went in September to hike. It's a very sweet little town full of traditional wooden houses, great views, and you can also buy actual sacks of pickles if that's your thing (see below).

I have to say these hikes were some of the wildest but definitely the most amazing. I love Germany but the hikes here were mind-blowing. If you want a challenge and you have very sturdy walking boots (cannot stress this enough), Poland is so so worth it.
